Searching for Fireplace Design Inspiration

This is probably a blog faux pas, but I'm going to edit this entry, even though it's already posted. I have no idea what it will do to comments or the relevance of them, but I wanted to get the post up to share it with some folks I was talking to about fire places.

I'm going to add/modify some notes below on some fireplaces, and maybe even delete some.  I'm not sure if there are duplicates. I was looking at houzz.com and there were definitely duplicates there, in that there were multiple shots of the same fireplace.. Anyway, there was so much there it was a little overwhelming on my first pass--I only got through a SMALL fraction of what's there.

I looked at a BUNCH of fireplace pictures last night (actually 2/16). I've come up with some ideas/themes.

TILE: I like light stone travertine/limestone, gray/slate/subway matte, large modern tiles, long slim horizontal
MANTLE/COLUMNS/BOOKSHELVES: I like very simple designs, limited carving/inset/details, heavy/substantial mantlepiece, a few square-ish details/braces, and floor pieces that give weight to the bottom
HEARTH: I like matching or larger size tile than fireplace, I think, flush with the floor if possible

Below: focusing on the bottom half, I like the simplicity/shaker-ish design. It seems odd that the cross-the-top design piece is taller than the vertical pieces are wide, though it seems consistent with the proportions of the tiled spaces. I don't like that much elevation of the hearth.
Below: I like the very simple design and the thickness of the mantlepiece is just barely enough.

Below: I like this one a lot, with a little less crown molding and a little heavier mantlepiece. I don't like the tile so much for my house. I think I'd go for something a little less buzy, tile-pattern wise, and a little less bluish.  And the hearth will need to be bigger at 5211 and not white.

Below: Ooh, love that design, with less crown molding and a bigger mantle piece (that phrase may become a drone). I think I'd like slightly larger tile, flat not glossy, and paler, and not green.

tile: i like light stone travertine/limestone, gray/slate/subway matte, large modern tiles, long slim horizontal mantle/columns/bookshelves: very simple design, limited carving/inset/details, heavy/substantial mantlepiece, a few square-ish details/braces, and floor pieces that give weight to the bottom hearth: matching or larger size tile than fireplace, flush with the floor if possible
Like the color of this tile, size and shape too, matte finish. Don't like the layment pattern, prefer "subway" style.
This tile looks just okay here. I htink it would look even better in my house. :)
If the small diamond tile areas were the same as the other tile, but smaller scale and rotated, I would like that better. Really like the mantle and trim here, except not all the crown molding on the mantle.
Like the cabinets and the simplicity of the designs. Too much crown molding on the tops of the columns. Tile is too small, though I guess it goes with the rest of this particular design well. Love the simplicity of the design of the mantle and trim below. Tile pattern should be offset "subway" style for me and rectangular tiles not square.
Nice modest scale. Too much detail on molding, better to be more like shaker style. Not enough tile, and prefer subway offset. LOVE the hearth flush with floor.
Love this tile/grout colors.
Like the shaker styling and flush hearth. No like the square tile, or maybe just too much color variation.
Really like the weight of the mantle and baseboards, and simplicity of the overall design. The mantle supports aren't quite what I'd like.
Love how simple and bold.
Love these mantle supports, strong mantle. Like the stone too, though it's a little too busy for me, colorwise. Don't like the tapered columns.
Like this with different tile, heavier mantlepiece, and painted white.
A little less molding, a lttle more mantlepiece.
I like a more basic tile, and less crown molding. Otherwise, this is nearly perfect.
Make this a matte tile and I love it. Solid hearth, mmhmmm!
Want: bigger tile, no grooves in coumns, more shaker style.
Needs: Thicker mantlepiece, less molding, slimmer columns and tile
Love this tile
So simple, I love it. Needs thicker mantlepiece, narrower columns, firebox surround in tile, flush hearth
Though a good paint/color/finish could probably work, here's something that suggests to me I don't want to paint my brick.
Hm. Do I want a little inset shelf box like that?
Simple and clean.
